As a prolific content creator, Tamara’s vision encompasses curriculum, music, technology, live events and more. By utilizing authentic expression through Spoken Word videos from some of Nashville’s best artists and teens, she’s connected the dots to modern culture and community-crossing messaging. Along with an intern team from Vanderbilt, she is developing app technology for young adults to resource video driven content and engage with subjects critical to their mental health and wellbeing, where data can be obtained to guide a greater understanding of their lives. It’s just the beginning of how to provide meaningful insights into how to love in a big world.
Tamara Fyke is…
A social entrepreneur with a passion for kids, families, and communities. She is the creator, author, and brand manager for Love In A Big World (LBW), which equips K-12 educators with a social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum, music and media products that are researchbased, relevant and practical. The LBW brand has been her core focus for over 25 years, with the goal to empower students to be socially competent, emotionally healthy problem-solvers who discover a sense of purpose and make a positive difference in the world.
A seasoned speaker and advocate for kids and families, her character-based resources have opened doors for reaching parents, guardians and educators around the nation. Many of her principles were developed during her years at The Center for Safe & Supportive Schools at Vanderbilt University as an Entrepreneur in Residence. It’s her lively enthusiasm for life, mixed with a heavy helping of creative expression through music and media that connects with both kids and adults. As a seasoned podcast guest and host, her message includes more than SEL, it’s about what real life love looks like in any relationship.
2020 provided tremendous challenges for the communities she serves. As a digital entrepreneur and prolific content creator, Tamara saw the answer in reaching kids through media with learning tools for their new home-based schooling requirements. MusiCity Kids launched to make sure all children could stay engaged through a collection of leading educators logging-in to the weekly Facebook Live and Youtube Channel to provide insights into Science, Math, Literature, Music, Fitness, Art, Health and Social and Emotional Learning. It was fun with a purpose, Tamara’s way to keep kids inspired and engaged in the joy of learning. With over 75 episodes and thousands of views, it continues to serve the Nashville community and beyond through distribution on BatteryPop!
APP IN DEVELOPMENT
Technology options for young adults is the target for content creators worldwide. During 2020, connection to viable learning resources and mental health and wellness tools were greatly needed. There are few options in the tween demographic. The LBW app has been in development to provide resources in a relevant and engaging format to these audiences.
The insights gained from these interactions will help guide educators and health communities to serve young adults the supports they need to live more balanced and productive lives.
Tamara is the editor of Building People: Social & Emotional Learning for Kids, Schools & Communities, a book that brings 12 wide-ranging perspectives on SEL to educators, parents, and leaders. It’s an excellent resource for use in professional development for educators in public/private schools, community groups and faith communities.
As popular blogger and columnist through her LBW platform Tamara is also featured regularly on EdCircuit, The Learning Counsel, Boost Collaborative, and Today.com.
The future is digital immersion for Tamara. Her years at Vanderbilt University prepared her to launch into the next level of her work. With an app creation in-process that will connect all of her passions to all of her audiences, she will be able to provide a platform for kids that will reach them where they live with messages of purpose and empowerment.
These initiatives have led to new ventures in Entertainment that will provide another expression of the mission highly imprinted in her heart and soul.
