WHY OUR CURRICULUM MATTERS

Cover of a teacher's guidebook titled 'Love in a Big World' for 5th grade, with a blue background, yellow and black accents, and text indicating it is practical for 21st-century learners.
A list titled "Positive Childhood Experiences" with seven points. The points highlight traits such as talking to family about feelings, feeling supported during tough times, enjoying participation in community traditions, feeling a sense of belonging in high school, feeling supported by friends, having caring non-parent adults, and feeling safe and protected at home. The list features blue numbering and a blue header, with a graphic of a smiling face with hearts at the bottom.

EASY IMPLEMENTATION

Flexible lessons, 15-30 minutes per day. Character-based lessons that support your everyday student interactions. Fit organically into your academic schedule, morning meetings, advisory periods, or after-school programs.

RESEARCH & EVIDENCE BASED

Love In A Big World is based on the Communities that Care Model (Hawkins & Catalano, 1992 and 1995), Self-Efficacy Theory (Bandura, 1977) and Positive Childhood Experiences (Bethell, 2019) demonstrating that safety, belonging, and supportive relationships are powerful protective factors that strengthen resilience and lifelong wellbeing.

Love In A Big World has been studied in partnership with researchers affiliated with Vanderbilt University and Lipscomb University.  From 2003-2007, we participated in the Social and Character Development Research Program with the Institute for Educational Sciences.  More information about this study can be found here.  Lipscomb conducted a study that examined the measurable impact of our art-based curriculum model and found a positive impact on student resilience and sense of belonging (Cunningham & Krysa, 2024).
